The Toughbook vs the 20 lb. Shackle

"In the month of August 2006, I had the opportunity to travel on a Coast Guard cutter in Kodiak Alaska. While there, a deck hand inadvertently threw a twenty pound shackle from the deck onto the pier. My toughbook was sitting on one of the timbers that line the pier and the shackle made perfect contact with my Panasonic while it was open and gathering some research data.

The monitor doesn't seem to work, but it will power on and access the hard drive. I had several years worth of research data on the hard drive, knowing it would be safe during my work in most field environments.

Although I didn't expect this type of shock to occur to the unit, it proves that the hard drive and my data is secure under most normal and abnormal circumstances. I continue to use another CF-28 to protect my data and am looking forward to the CF-30 coming in a few months."
